Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Taylor Made 20-inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now, this gas strut is designed to replace a worn-out or damaged strut on your boat's hatchet lid. It extends to ease lifting of your hatch lid and it'll compress to gently close the hatch without slamming. It is a heat-treated steel construction, which is very durable. It does use a corrosion-resistant coating on it, so it won't rust even in saltwater areas.
And it is a ball and socket installation. You attach the ball studs on the inside of your boat. It attaches to your ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch. The connection type is a 10-millimeter ball socket, and it easily installs in minutes. There's no special tools required.
I want to zoom in just to show the detail of the end here.Basically what you'll do is there's this C clip right here that goes over the top of the socket here. You just pry up that C clip, take a small screwdriver, stick it in there, pry up that C clip. You don't have to remove the clip. You can just pry it up and then remove the old strut from the hatch and then you just insert this, on this one you'll pry this one open, insert the socket onto the ball stud, push that clip back down, and it'll lock the strut to the ball, so it's a simple installation. Now, when you do install this, you want the inner rod, this portion here facing down, and it is always recommended to replace gas shocks in pairs. Total length on this is 20 inches and that's measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of this one, so center to center.
There's your 20 inch measurement. Compression force on this is 110 pounds. And this is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 20-inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches.
